Omiš


Omis is around 60 kilometers away from Zivogosce Blato (direction map is attached below the text).

Omis is a beautiful town located at the estuary of the river Cetina. The town has a rich and famous history: long time ago, it was a pirate seat and center from where the pirates governed the Adriatic coast.

The fortress of Mirabela (Peovica) and Starigrad (Fortica) present permanent reminder of the glorious pirate history. They both stand today as one of the most popular landmarks of Omiš attracting tourists with its spectacular views over the entire town Omis from Mirabela, or over the islands Brac, Hvar, Solta and Cetina estuary from Starigrad. The view had significant meaning for pirates during history period, because they could control all the area from those two fortresses. Today, both fortresses with the St. Peter's Church present important Cultural Heritage of Omis.

The beautiful Cetina River and its canyon, mountain tops Mosor and Babnjaca, old olive groves and vineyards and beautiful landscape made Omis especially attractive to tourists.
